Windows Server 2008 R2
: Windows Server 2008 R2 builds on the award-winning foundation of Windows Server 2008, expanding existing technology and adding new features to enable IT professionals to increase the reliability and flexibility of their server infrastructures. New virtualization tools, Web resources, management enhancements, and exciting Windows 7 integration help save time, reduce costs, and provide a platform for a dynamic and efficiently managed data center. Powerful tools such as Internet Information Services (IIS) version 7.5, updated Server Manager and Hyper-V platforms and Windows PowerShell version 2.0 combine to give customers greater control, increased efficiency and the ability to react to front-line business needs faster than ever before.
Active Directory Domain Services: Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), formerly known as Active Directory Directory Services, is the central location for configuration information, authentication requests, and information about all of the objects that are stored within your forest. Using Active Directory, you can efficiently manage users, computers, groups, printers, applications, and other directory-enabled objects from one secure, centralized location.
Active Directory Integrated Group Policies: Group Policies are the main mode of securing and locaking down users and devices in the Windows environment. Now there is even more! Ease of managment with the GPMC Group Policy Management Console allows you to easily creat, copy and link group policies to you Ou's and filter by group and many other options. Plus the ability to back up, plan, and perform modeling, to see what the resultant policy will be based up on all criteria that effect inheritance.
Group Policy Preferences: Allow you manage drive mappings, registry settings, local users and groups, services, files, and folders without the need to learn a scripting language. You can use preference items to reduce scripting and the number of custom system images needed, standardize management, and help secure your networks. By using preference item-level targeting, you can streamline desktop management by reducing the number of Group Policy objects needed.
Distributed File System: Windows Server 2008 R2 file services include Distributed File System (DFS) replication and namespaces to provide customers with better access to data and simplified access to files and shares across a network-wide infrastructure. DFS Replication (DFS-R) efficiently and bi-directionally replicates partial file changes to keep multiple file copies in sync. DFS Namespaces (DFS-N) makes file shares easier to locate and more resilient by enabling users to access their data without regard to which physical file server(s) that the files reside on. With replicated copies and transparent redirection, clients are can be more productive because their data is closer to them and highly available.
Volume Shadow Copy: Shadow Copies of Shared Folders provides point-in-time copies of files that are located on shared resources, such as a file server. With Shadow Copies of Shared Folders, users can view shared files and folders as they existed at points of time in the past. Accessing previous versions of files, or shadow copies, is useful because users can:
Active Directory Driven Logon Scripts: Group policy delivered logon scripts that will allow you to map drives and printers entirely based upon groups. Never leaving Active Directory Users and Computers.
System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM):System Center Configuration Manager 2007 comprehensively assesses, deploys, and updates your servers, clients, and devices—across physical, virtual, distributed, and mobile environments. Optimized for Windows and extensible beyond, it is the best choice for gaining enhanced insight into, and control over, your IT systems.
